How to choose suitable biodegradable bag raw materials based

The following is a method for selecting suitable biodegradable bag raw materials based on cost:

1、 Understand the price range of different raw materials

Polylactic acid (PLA)

The price of PLA is usually around 20000 to 30000 yuan/ton. Its price is relatively high because its production process is complex and the cost of raw material sources (such as biomass like corn) is not low.

However, PLA has excellent properties such as high transparency and good strength. If the product has high requirements for quality and appearance, and the cost budget is relatively sufficient, PLA can be considered for use.

Polyadipic acid/polybutylene terephthalate (PBAT)

The price of PBAT is approximately 15000-20000 yuan/ton. It is moderately priced among biodegradable materials and has good processing and mechanical properties.

For products that require good performance but also need to control costs, PBAT is a more suitable choice.

Starch based materials

The price of starch based materials is relatively low, generally ranging from 10000 to 15000 yuan/ton. This is because starch has a wide range of sources and relatively low cost.

However, starch based materials have limited performance when used alone, such as insufficient mechanical strength and poor water resistance. If the product does not require high performance and pursues low cost, starch based materials can be the main consideration.

2、 Consider processing costs

The complexity of processing technology

For example, the processing temperature range of PLA is narrow, requiring high requirements for processing equipment and process control, which may lead to an increase in processing costs. Accurate control of temperature, humidity, and other parameters is required during the processing, otherwise product quality problems may occur, such as high or low crystallinity affecting product performance.

PBAT has relatively good processing performance, a wide range of processing temperatures, relatively low requirements for equipment and processes, and relatively low processing costs.

Compatibility with other materials

If multiple biodegradable materials are selected for blending to adjust performance, their compatibility needs to be considered. Materials with poor compatibility may require the addition of special compatibilizers or complex pretreatment during the blending process, which can increase processing costs.

For example, when blending starch based materials with PLA, due to the significant differences in polarity and molecular structure between the two, it is usually necessary to add compatibilizers to improve their compatibility, thereby increasing costs.
